The Lake Maggiore, with its natural beauties, enchanting shores and ancient vill ages, was always been and remains a fascinating destination for writers, poets, philosopher and artists.
With its inspirational mountain views of the first summits of the Alps, it is su itable for trekking and hiking on gentle slopes, where you’ll discover the livin g remains of the ancient local culture.
Starting our journey from Baveno, you can visit artistic and architectural Romanesque style treasures, such as the splendid monument of the Church of SS. Gervasio and Protasio with its six-story bell-tower, the Baptistery and a picturesque porch that characterizes the Via Crucis.
We continue with the historical centre, with its small and picturesque streets, with signs of the manufacture of the famous “pink granite of Baveno”, whose quarries dominate the town.

The panoramic Baveno lakes shore, centre of many summer events, offers a magnificent view of the Borromean Islands and Stresa, easily reachable by boat.
Stroll along the lake shore promenade to the Selvaspessa river, and to the Villa Fedora, with its park and beach.
The promenade will take you to the small hamlets around Baveno, where a visit to Feriolo, on the lake shore, is of particularly worth.

The Mount Mottarone (1492 metres hight) is a famous winter ski resort, with a scenic view of seven lakes and of the Alps; can be reached by car or cable-way from Stresa (cableway stops also at the Alpinia Garden).

The Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso (can be reached by boat); the ancient village of Vogogna, of medieval origin; the medieval town centre of Domodossola with the Piazza Mercato (market square); lake Orta and the ancient village of Orta San Giulio; the ancient medieval hamlet of Carmine Superiore and the Castles of Cannero, on the way to Switzerland.
The Swiss shore of Lake Maggiore, the Ticino Canton, with the town of Locarno, with its museums and the world famous Locarno Film Festival, is only 45 km. away from Baveno; can be reached by car, train and scenic boat trip.
By car, the road hugs the lake shore bringing you through the picturesque towns of Verbania, Cannero and its castles, and Cannobio with its famous weekly market.
By train, with the historical train of the Centovalli, through the enchanting Valley of Painters (Vigezzo Valley) and the historic town of Santa Maria Maggiore.
By boat, in order to appreciate the charm of the lake and its beautiful shores.
